1. Patient Gets Registered

0. Overview

0. The goal of PATIENT registration is to identify a PATIENT, as well as capturing some basic demographic information; See also point 7.

1. PATIENT may get registered in various ways.

2. The most visible way is having their info entered by a CLERK.

3. Most hospitals have legacy data, as paper, or excel, these may be taken care of by TECHNICIANS.

4. PATIENT info may be entered offline as well, by Community Health Workers.

5. PATIENT registration may be delayed when there is an emergency.

6. Most other actions performed by medical workers directly rely on PATIENT record, so registration is very important.

7. In addition to point 0, the goal of this step is also to assign a PATIENT to a department.

1. Info Accuracy

1. It is very important to accurately record PATIENT info, especially those related to identity.

2. In countries like India there are many working languages, names may be romanized in different ways, thus making retrieving correct data difficult.

3. When it is overly time-consuming or inconvenient to find a record, most CLERKS will instead try to create a new one, causing duplication and loss of past history.

4. The same happens to localtion, e.g. village names, where a mistyped name could cause a duplicate record to be created.

5. A lot of info could be collected by Bahmni, but little of them is of real use, we need to be aware of that, as well as the cost associated with keeping those info private and secure.
