Snowstorm FHIR Terminology Server Setup

Snowstorm FHIR Terminology Server Setup

Background

Snowstorm is an open source terminology server developed by SNOMED International. It has many use cases including supporting authoring of SNOMED CT extensions, hosting the SNOMED CT browser and also as a FHIR terminology server.

For the development of this project we will use “Snowstorm X” which is an official fork of the main project where the FHIR API is currently being redeveloped to be more compliant with the standard. This version of Snowstorm is also able to host other code systems (ICD-10, LOINC and others) in the FHIR API.

Setup

These are the steps to set up a Snowstorm X FHIR Terminology server and load the SNOMED CT International Edition on a Ubuntu server, 16g of memory is recommended.
